New EU Legislation Prompting Change for Supermarket Chain

Due to new EU legislations concerning the display of allergens, one of Catalonia’s supermarket chains needed to innovate.

New EU legislation requires that, if you sell food and beverages within the EU, that essential information is clearly displayed so that consumers can make informed decisions. All pre-packed food containing certain allergenic ingredients must be clearly labelled.

Along with new legislation on allergens, this supermarket chain also wanted to make further improvements, go digital and create more interactive customer experiences in their shops.

They also required a tool that was available in multiple languages and had data synchronisation in real-time.

Using An Interactive All-In-One Touch Panel PC

Our team here at AOPEN designed an interactive tool that collects usage data and records category or product views. The tool can cross-check the data with other information, such as sales as well as analyse KPIs.

This new digital solution was installed in several key areas within their supermarkets: the deli, cheese factory, bakery and butcher’s stall.

When a customer is in one of these sections within the supermarket, they can use the touch panel PC to select a product category (e.g. dairy, bread, meat, etc) and start filtering the 14 allergens, after which they can see detailed information about the ingredients for the product(s) they have selected.

At the core of this digital innovation is the eTILE 15M-FW.

The eTILE 15M-FW is a powerful, interactive all-in-one touch display, enabled for 24/7 use. This panel PC can display content in both landscape and portrait modes, meaning that it can be effortlessly and easily mounted on a wall, or used as an instant kiosk solution on a floor stand. This particular all-in-one touch panel PC, for our supermarket chain client, used the AOPEN Hockey Floor Stand.

Perfectly In-Line With EU Legislation

To minimise online data transfers, the software used on this panel PC works locally. This also means that it leaves enough room to focus on important data for the supermarket chain, such as product prices and stock.

The eTILE 15M-FW is the perfect solution for this client as it is in-line with the new EU legislation. Furthermore, this supermarket chain can also use the data to optimise their sales.
